There are always quite a few Email, Letter and Call-In Campaigns going on at any given time, this page serves to be an overview of current causes with links to the sites. While you may not be sure about the validity of an Email Campaign, from my experience over the last three or four years, they can be QUITE effective! So plese don't hesitate to fill them out. Also if you know of something that is not listed here, please let me know so that I can put it up! I can be reached right for questions or comments here
EFF Campaigns (EFF Action Center can be found here)
(The EFF was my first involvment with anything political and so it holds a special place in my heart!)
Ask Congress to Hold Hearings on P2P!
The RIAA recently announced that they will begin suing individual users of P2P software before the summer is out. This is only the most recent development in a campaign that is putting companies out of business, forcing college students to hand over tens of thousands of dollars, and bullying ISPs into betraying your trust. Adding insult to injury, these tactics don't earn a single penny for
the artists you love. It is time to change the laws that the RIAA relies upon to bully the public. There are over 60 million Americans using P2P today, and you can make a difference. Send this letter and urge Congress to hold hearings on using P2P to get artists paid.
Support Fair Labeling for Copy-Protected Media!
Senator Ron Wyden recently introduced the Digital Consumer Right- to-Know Act (DCRKA), a bill that would require entertainment companies to label products with copy-protections that limit consumer use. Support the DCRKA if you think the content industry should be ordered to clearly label media that restricts your rights!
Tell Your Legislators to Repeal CIPA's Internet Blocking Provisions
The Children's Internet Protection Act of 2000 (CIPA) requires all public schools and libraries receiving certain federal funds or discounts to install controversial Internet blocking or "filtering" software. This software is supposed to prevent children from viewing material considered "harmful to minors." Unfortunately, no filter can identify these illegal materials or distinguish them from valuable web content of all kinds. Use your voice to protect students' right to learn on the Internet!
Update: DMCRA Reintroduced - Ask Your Rep. to Co-Sponsor!
Representatives Rick Boucher and John Doolittle recently re- introduced the Digital Media Consumers' Rights Act (DMCRA, H.R. 107), which would enact labelling requirements for usage- impaired "copy-protected" compact discs, as well as several amendments to 1998's infamous Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
Use your voice to protect your digital fair use rights! After several years on legislative defense, this is your opportunity to let Congress know that we want positive changes to the DMCA. Tell your friends, tell your family, but first TELL CONGRESS!
Tell Congress to Get Airline Security Plan Under Control!
The Computer Assisted Passenger Prescreening System (CAPPS II) is designed to crawl through government and commercial databases and issue "threat assessments" for air travelers. Based on automated searches of public and private databases, each passenger is given a color-coded threat level: green for no problem, yellow for passengers who require heightened caution, and red for people who are not allowed to fly.
The government says CAPPS II, which is currently being implemented by Delta Airlines, will increase security. Perhaps. But the system is extremely dangerous to your rights, in that there are no mechanisms in place for you to learn your own assessment level or to correct false information about yourself. The government is being very secretive about this powerful program, not even revealing which commercial and government databases are involved or who will be allowed to see the data and for what purposes. Write to your Congresspeople and tell them that you want responsible, accountable security that respects your privacy!
TIA Update: Ask Your Senators to Support the Data-Mining Moratorium Act of 2003!
On January 16th, Senators Russ Feingold, Jon Corzine, and Ron Wyden introduced the Data-Mining Moratorium Act of 2003, a bill that would freeze domestic data-mining projects that lack explicit governmental approval. This measure would stop some of the scariest provisions of the Total Information Awareness (TIA) program. While TIA is still a huge threat to your civil liberties, this measure is an important step in its defeat. Act now!
This one came to my attention by way of Larry Lessig through a forward from someone who he sent it to, and if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me! It attempts to uphold the public domain in defense from the unreasonable demands of some copyright holders.

Help webcasters fight the RIAA
Let your Congressional Representatives know you are concerned over the RIAA-financed $18,000 trip House Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) took to Thailand and Taiwan in January of 2003.
This Campaign from NOW which is somewhat off topic but struck me as so bizarre that I had to add it!
Speak Out About 'Educational' Pelvic Exams
A report published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology last month has called attention to the fact that many hospitals routinely allow medical students, sometimes in groups, to conduct "educational" pelvic exams on unconscious women, often without a patient's knowledge or explicit consent.
